dc.description.abstractThe study aimed at landslides and homesteads around Mubuku region in maliba sub county in kasese district and it was guided by the following objectives; To identify the different types and characteristics of landslides in Mubuku sub-county, to quantify the impacts of landslide on homesteads and other key property assets and to establish the strategies being taken by the local communities in mitigating the impact of landslide around Mubuku sub-county. This study used both qualitative and quantitative research design. Qualitative approaches were used whereby a case design was used in the selected sample area. Descriptions basing on the study were obtained from the respondents within the selected area. The study also used interview and questionnaires to get descriptions from the respondents. In this study both qualitative and quantitative methods were used to analyze the data that was collected from the field using SPSS. However, from the findings, respondents revealed that they often get support from local organizations including but not limited to Ensco Uganda limited (58.9%), Semuliki Co operative (22.1%) and Bundibugyo Local Government (18.9%). Studies on sustainable agricultural practices such as agro forestry, terracing among others should be done around Mubuku Sub County. These should aim at identifying and establishing the most appropriate practices to be employed by the community members to reduce on the levels of vulnerability to landslides in the area.
